Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas Provides Thought Leadership for G7 Summit on Sustainable Energy from Waste Streams
Charlevoix, Quebec –The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) has been selected by Climate Change - The New Economy(CCTNE), the leading publication on Climate Change at the G7 and COP Summits, to write the lead statement on the role of policy in promoting sustainable energy practices for this year’s G7 Summit in Canada.
“The honor of being requested by CCTNE to provide insight for international policy leaders at the G7 Summit is a testament to the policy platform and advocacy voice our organization and members have established for the renewable natural gas industry across North America,” said RNG Coalition Founder & CEO Johannes Escudero.
The RNG Coalition’s piece in the publication, authored by Director of Public Affairs Marcus Gillette, exhibits the growth of the North American renewable natural gas industry in recent years as a leading example of the success of national clean fuels programs like the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).
“The RNG industry is a model success story showing the effectiveness of clean fuels policies,” said Gillette. “Aside from the overall growth in RNG production, the growth in RNG used as a transportation fuel under the Renewable Fuel Standard and regional Low Carbon Fuel Standards provides clear evidence these policy programs are working as intended.”
When there were 51 RNG facilities in 2015, the RNG Coalition set a goal to double the number of RNG production facilities in North America by 2025. The industry is currently on pace to exceed that benchmark well ahead of the target year.
The G7 (or “Group of Seven”) Summit is an annual meeting between leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. The 44th G7 Summit begins tomorrow and runs through June 9thin Charlevoix, Quebec. “Working Together on Climate Change, Oceans and Clean Energy” is one of five themes guiding summit discussions.
